Autumn Flavours

Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter, usually in late September (for northern hemisphere) when days becomes noticeably short and sharp. Nights becomes long with the transition from warm to cold weather and skies turn grey, and people turn inward, both physically and mentally.

For us living in tropical Singapore, it used to be rainy at the end of the year (Nov, Dec, early Jan months), but since mid-nineties, the weather has been quite weird, there are no more "fixed" months when there are rain, it (the rain) just come when it feels like it!

It also used to be hot during the middle of the year (May, Jun, July), but recently you see heavy rainfall (lasting only for a few hours) even during those months.

Many of the older folks say it is due to the change in the world, and the world has changed, nothing is predictable anymore. Perhaps, we ought to seriously treat the world with a little more care and respect to enable us and our future generation to live in a better world. A penny for your thoughts.

Speaking about earth and autumn, i did a wedding order last weekend which had an earthy theme for the wedding decor. In conjunction with the theme, I decided to go with the colours of Autumn. With the help of my elder sister ("creative director") we decided on shades of orange, brown and green for the toppers. Keeping with the simple wedding decor, we decided the decor for the cupcake tier ought to be kept minimal. Instead of the usual beaded trimmings and feather boa, we used artificial peony floral garland, rusty orange coloured orchids and ferns to finish the look.

A tiny shabby chic bird cage acts as the wedding tier centrepiece with a fondant covered cupcake
